Now that January is coming to a close, it is time to set achievable goals for 2018. Whether you’ve already started working on your resolution or haven’t even thought about it, you can achieve everything you want in 2018 by setting S.M.A.R.T. goals to stay motivated all year long.
So what exactly is a S.M.A.R.T. goal? It stands for:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Time-based
Example: This year don’t just make your resolution to “be healthier,” make it S.M.A.R.T.
S - I can be healthier by eating the daily recommended amount of fruits and vegetables
M – I will use a fitness tracker to count a specific number of calories burned per week
A - I usually exercise 2-3 times a week; now I will exercise 4-5 times a week
R - I want to be healthier and lose weight, eating better and exercising more will help me achieve that
T – I will complete at least 20 workouts in four weeks
You can also switch up your goals each month, so instead of just exercising to be healthy you can make sure you get a full eight hours of sleep each night for a month and change your eating habits by meal prepping the next month.
Whatever you goals are, make them S.M.A.R.T. so when December rolls around you didn’t waste a year saying what you would achieve, you actually achieved it.
